Uniekaas, a Dutch cheesemaker, has announced that it is to be acquired by DOC Dairy Partners, a subsidiary of German dairy company DMK.
The deal includes Uniekaas’s complete maturing, packaging and production facilities in Kaatsheuvel, the Netherlands. Certain activities, such as the brands Tjiezi and Parrano, are excluded from the transaction, however, and will continue under the name Best Cheese Holland. Best Cheese Holland will focus on international markets, especially the USA and southeast Asia, as well as the Dutch market.
In a statement, the two firms described the acquisition as “a logical step in DOC Dairy Partners’ strategy to expand in European growth markets”.
“As a result, DOC will operate an entire production chain, enabling stronger competition with other cheese producers”, the statement continued.
Commenting on the acquisition, DOC Dairy Partners Director Ron Krekels said: “We are delighted to have reached agreement with Uniekaas, a renowned Dutch brand. The acquisition is a logical step in our strategy to expand in key European growth markets. DOC Dairy Partners is a supplier of Gouda Holland cheese (PGI) and cheese made from ‘meadow milk’ (milk coming from cows that constantly graze in the green Dutch meadows), especially as private label. With this acquisition, we now have a leading cheese brand and the ability to do our own maturing and packaging. That gives us important competitive advantages”.
