Japanese brewer Asahi has announced plans to close a brewery in Greenwich, London that produces the Meantime and Dark Star beer ranges, with production transferred to the Fuller’s site in west London.
According to reports, the Greenwich site will be retained but converted into a “standalone” consumer retail experience.
In 2022, Asahi closed the Dark Star brewery in West Sussex, moving production to the Meantime site in Greenwich.
“Asahi UK today proposes to bring production of all its local beer brands together under one brewing operation at the Griffin Brewery in Chiswick”, an Asahi spokesperson is quoted as saying. “This will help the company use the extensive in-house brewing expertise and capabilities at Chiswick and create more efficient, sustainable operations, with a solid foundation for future innovation and investment”.
