Belgian brewery Brouwerij Martens has announced the acquisition of United Dutch Breweries (UDB), a Netherlands-based brewing company, from European investment company Gimv.
Offering “affordable premium import brands”, UDB is known in particular for lagers such as Oranjeboom and Royal Dutch, as well as the malt drink 3 Horses.
Commenting on the move, Brouwerij Martens CEO Danny Dresselaerts said: “We are very proud to have been able to realize this transaction together with Gimv and UDB and see the strategic partnership with UDB as an important milestone in the further development and strengthening of our joint global business”.
UDB CEO Tom Verhaegen added: “The combination of UDB and Brouwerij Martens creates enormous opportunities for all our stakeholders, not least for our customers and employees. We are adding the strong commercial, branding and route-to-market competences of UDB to the production and supply chain competences of Martens, which are simply outstanding in terms of quality, flexibility and innovative strength”.
