Described as the brand’s first foray into fruit and vegetable mueslis, Dorset Cereals Spiced Carrot & Apple Muesli is a new launch from leading UK cereal-maker Allied Bakeries that underlines the enhanced role that vegetable ingredients are now enjoying across a range of bakery categories. The new limited edition variety is described as a blend of rolled and toasted flakes with carrot, dried fruits and crunchy pecans, spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg, with the sweetness of the apple providing the “perfect accompaniment” to the savoury flavour of the carrot, according to the company.
In launching its new Dorset Cereals product, Allied Bakeries itself comments on the increasingly popularity of vegetables at the breakfast table, noting that consumers are now adding vegetables to yoghurt and cereals to create healthier and more adventurous alternatives to traditional breakfast foods. Despite containing only 4% carrot, Dorset Cereals Spiced Carrot & Apple Muesli is advertised as sugar-free and “packed full of nutritional goodness”, in addition to “push[ing] the boundaries” with its combination of “warming” spiced, savoury and sweet flavours. The launch of Dorset Cereals Spiced Carrot & Apple Muesli points not just to a growing desire for more ‘earthy’ and savoury flavours in traditionally sweet categories such as breakfast cereal, but also the demand for ‘concentrated’ nutrition, delivered in accessible and more palatable ways, with vegetables and ‘superfoods’ playing an ever bigger role in convenience-oriented food and drink launches.
