Gama spoke to Josep Antoni Valls, Managing Director, Alimentaria, ahead of the event’s 2018 edition.
What are your expectations for this edition of Alimentaria?
This year the joint event of Alimentaria with Hostelco, the International Exhibition of Equipment for Restaurants, Hotels and Mass Catering, will create one of the largest international platforms for the food, gastronomy and hospitality industries. The synergies generated by this new alliance will be evident in all the spaces that each show devotes to culinary demostrations as well as those in which visitors to both events can participate, mainly from the HoReCa and Food Service value chain.
The industry has responded very positively to this proposal and several weeks before the celebration of the show, 95% of the net exhibition space – which means more than 100,000 m2 in the Gran Via Venue of Fira de Barcelona – is fully booked, with close to 4,500 firms exhibiting. On the other hand, we are expecting some 150,000 professional visitors and to generate more than 12,500 business meetings. Alimentaria is also aiming to revalidate the levels of internationalization achieved at our previous edition, attracting around 30% of its exhibitors and visitors from all across the world.
Taking these figures into account, I am confident that Alimentaria 2018 will be our largest edition in recent years.
