Melitta, the leading German manufacturer of coffee, coffee makers and coffee accessories, has announced the acquisition of the Italian household goods firm Cuki Group.
Based in Volpiano, near Turin, Cuki Group is the parent company of Cuki Cofresco, the Italian market leader in food storage and refuse bags. The company markets retail brands such as Cuki and Domopak and manufactures goods including foil, baking paper and food storage bags. Cuki Group’s revenue in 2017 was around €200 milllion ($230 million).
Melitta is the owner of Cofresco Frischhalteprodukte, Europe’s leading manufacture of food storage products with a portfolio including the brands Toppits, Handy Bag, Albal, Glad, Primapack and BacoFoil.
Commenting on the move, Pieter van Halewijn, a member of Melitta’s executive board, said: “The acquisition of Cuki Group is a meaningful milestone in the development of the Cofresco business. The deal will enable us to actively enter the Italian market and will give us an outstanding presence across Europe. The scale with which we will operate in future offers numerous opportunities to maximise synergies and also to further enhance the presence and quality of our products”.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
