Leading Italian food company Barilla and consumer goods multinational Unilever have entered into a strategic agreement to sell ice cream and snacks in Italy, according to a Reuters report.
The deal, agreed between Barilla and Unilver’s Algida division, will reportedly tap into increased demand, especially in the summer season, and allow Barilla to compete with larger overseas companies.
Francesco Del Porto, head of the Italy Region at Barilla, said: “We are convinced that the ice cream market offers interesting prospects and we know that we have brands and products that are of great interest to the Italian consumer”.
According to sources, the partnership will be effective from January 2022, initially operating solely in Italy but with the intention of extending later to the rest of Europe.
