The latest innovation insight from Gama Compass
MANCHESTER – 31st January 2023: This month’s Innovation Insight spotlights a new launch aiming to ally the distinct virtues of chilled and dried soup through a novel ‘ice cube’ format – Soupologie Souper Cubes.
An extension to Soupologie’s health-focused line of ready-made, vegetable-forward soups in the UK, Soupologie Souper Cubes are a novel retail format that seeks to combine the convenience and dosing advantages of dried soup with the taste, nutrition, and health associations of chilled soup. Boasting to go “from freezer to hob in five minutes” and touted as “the world’s first eco-soup!”, Soupologie Souper Cubes are available in 150g portions, with one cube suitable for a child’s portion or as a sauce, and two together providing a full serving of soup. The format is currently available for two of the company’s existing chilled flavours, namely Pea & Leek and Carrot & Turmeric.
“While the ‘ice cube’ format of Soupologie Souper Cubes may have limited applications beyond immediately adjacent categories such as stocks and sauces, it serves as a useful example of the creative thinking that brands can deploy to overcome criticism around both excess packaging and food waste”, commented Gama insights director Tom Warden. “With convenience and quality set to remain key consumer demands, such packaging-free or ‘packaging-light’ single-serve dosing could help balance the potentially conflicting requirements of health, taste, convenience and sustainability, especially as environmental concerns continue to rise up the agenda”.
