Hassia, the German mineral water and soft drinks firm, is acquiring the carbonated drink brand Bionade and ice tea brand Ti from current owners Radeberger, according to a report in Handelsblatt.
Launched in Germany in the early 1990s, the Bionade brand is now distributed across the country in retail and foodservice channels. Produced with malt and fruit juice through a fermentation process, Bionade drinks are promoted as containing wholly natural ingredients and as being available in a range of “dry” or “fresh and fruity” flavours. The line comes in a number of varieties including Elderberry, Lemon & Bergamot and Raspberry & Plum, with the latest variety of Blackcurrant & Rosemary launched in 2017. In 2013, the firm departed from fruit-based flavours with the launch of Bionade Cola.
Ti is a natural and organic ice tea brand of lightly-sweetened ice tea, available in a range of fruit flavours.
Commenting on the acquisition, Hassia marketing director Stefan Müuller said: “We have been actively pursuing Bionade and Ti, two highly attractive brands that are fully in keeping with our sustainable business philosophy”.
Radeberger, a division of the Dr. Oetker food and drinks group, bought a stake in Bionade in 2009, acquiring the remainder of the firm from its owners three years later.
