Snacking and soft drinks giant PepsiCo has announced the launch of Pepsi Prebiotic Cola, which the company claims is the first major innovation in the traditional cola category in two decades.
Featuring 5 grams of cane sugar and 30 calories per can, with no artificial sweeteners, Pepsi Prebiotic Cola is touted as offering the classic crisp, refreshing taste of Pepsi with the added benefit of 3 grams of prebiotic fibre. It will launch in Original Cola and Cherry Vanilla flavours.
Comenting on the launch, PepsiCo Beverages US CEO Ram Krishnan said: “From the iconic blue can, to the consumer-preferred Pepsi Zero Sugar, our portfolio has always adapted to the needs and flavor preferences of the consumer. Pepsi Prebiotic Cola represents the next leap forward in giving consumers choice, optionality and functional ingredients in their cola experience, without sacrificing the iconic Pepsi taste we’re known for delivering”.
The launch follows PepsiCo’s $1.95 billion purchase of Poppi, a fast-growing prebiotic soda brand, earlier this year, as well as Coca-Cola’s foray into prebiotic sodas with the launch of the Simply Pop brand.
The new product will launch in 12 oz single cans for trial and in 8-pack cases, available online in autumn and in retail outlets from early 2026.
