Berglandmilch, Austria’s largest dairy, is investing €17.5 million ($19 million) to establish a new mozzarella production line at its Aschbach facility in Mostviertel.
The expansion project, which is supported by a €1.75 million ($1.9 million) contribution from the government, state and EU, will involve upgrading the site’s existing milk acceptance zone with an additional storage tank and tank extraction line. Capital will also be deployed into production facilities, including a cheese vat, salt bath, cooling bath, mozzarella line and packaging system, increasing processing capacity by 150,000 tonnes of milk.
Commenting on the investment, Berglandmilch managing director Josef Braunshofer said: “This major expansion of the Aschbach site will open up important new sales opportunities for us on an international level”. The regional processing expansion is also expected to eliminate the need for approximately 160 truck-trailers.
Berglandmilch is a registered cooperative owned by more than 11,000 Austrian family-run farms, of which 1,800 are located in Lower Austria. The business generates sales of around €910 million ($1 billion), exports its products to more than 50 countries worldwide, and employs about 460 people at the Aschbach site.
