United Petfood, the Belgian private label pet food manufacturer, has announced its entry into the Canadian market through the acquisition of a production facility in Drummondville, Quebec.
The site, which focuses on the manufacture of dry pet food, was acquired from Legault Group as part of an asset deal for an undisclosed sum. The move marks United Petfood’s first manufacturing presence in North America. United Petfood, which has an annual turnover of more than €1.6 billion ($1.84 billion), currently operates more than 25 production facilities across Europe and the USA.
The acquisition follows the company’s recent expansion into the Turkish market, where it partnered with Lider Petfood to acquire a production site in Kırklareli in March.
Commenting on the Canadian deal, the board of United Petfood said: “The opening of our first facility in North America is a milestone in our global growth strategy. This acquisition allows us to better serve our customers in North America with high-quality, locally produced pet food”.
The Drummondville plant is expected to strengthen the company’s supply chain and service levels for both Canadian and US retailers.
