USA: Starbucks in talks to acquire stake in SodaStream

Non-Alcoholic Drinks, North America

Global company Starbucks Corporation is said to be in advanced talks to acquire 10 percent of SodaStream International Ltd.

The home carbonated beverage machine company reportedly has a value of $1.1. billion. Starbucks’ offer reflected a 30 per cent premium on the $850 million market price of SodaStream, it is ireported.

According to Australian Food News, sources suggest that SodaStream was seeking a partner, similar to the agreement between Coca-Cola Company and coffee machine maker Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. The latter has been making plans to launch a home soda maker machine, which could make carbonated beverages from Coca-Cola syrups.

Sources say that such machines would increase competition for SodaStream, inreasing the need for the company to have a partner of its own.

An official announcement from Starbucks and SodaStream is expected to be made soon.
