Schwan’s Company, the US frozen food firm, is stepping up its presence in the pizza space with the acquisition of Better Baked Foods and Drayton Foods, both subsidiaries of NE Foods.
The move comes less than two months after the firm reached a deal to acquire pizza firm MaMa Rosa’s.
Better Baked Foods makes pizza, French bread pizza and sandwich items for private label customers and foodservice venues, and offers retail brands including Better Baked Classics, Daybreak Classics, Papa Presto, Zap-A-Snack and Odyssey foods. It operates a total of three manufacturing facilities in Pennsylvania and New York.
Drayton Foods, based at its production facility in Fargo, ND, makes pizza crusts, dough balls, breadsticks and dinner rolls for its food industry customers, and offers its Two Sicily’s brand of pizza dough in retail stores.
Commenting on the move, Schwan’s Company CEO Dimitrios Smyrnios said: “We are focused on adding to our capabilities and growing our share of the U.S. pizza market. We are extremely happy to add Better Baked Foods and Drayton Foods to our family of businesses as both are highly regarded for providing quality foods to their retail, food-service and home-delivery customers nationwide”.
Terms of the deals were not disclosed.
