PepsiCo, the snack food and soft drinks giant, has announced its further expansion into the health and wellness arena with the acquisition of plant-based food maker Health Warrior.
Founded in 2011 Health Warrior makes products such as nutrition bars, mug muffins and protein powder that are described as containing plant-based superfood, nutrient-dense and gluten-free ingredients and also as being low in sugar.
The acquisition is PepsiCo’s first to form part of its incubator arm The PepsiCo HIVE, a newly-created entity within the company focused on growing emerging, smaller brands.
Commenting on the news, PepsiCo North America CEO Al Carey said: “We’re thrilled to welcome the innovative Health Warrior brand to the PepsiCo family. We continue to position ourselves at the forefront of changing consumer preferences and trends. This acquisition helps us increase our presence in the nutrition bar category, which is an attractive growth space”.
