Leading global food and drinks firm Mondelez has announced plans to invest $11 million to install its largest Oreo production facility in Africa.
The newly-created facility is based in Casablanca, Morocco and will have the capacity to produce up to 900 million Oreo biscuits per year through local subsidiary Mondelez Maroc, the company said.
The investment means that Mondelez Maroc will make the Oreo brand more available to Moroccans, offering it in a range of formats and at pricing that consumers can afford, the company claimed in a statement. The company added that it would capitalize on a large and well-developed distribution network to make the brand widely accessible in traditional and modern-trade stores.
Commenting on the move, Antoine Collette, President Biscuits for Mondelez International in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said: “We’re so excited to be making this delicious, high-quality and iconic biscuit available to all Moroccans, made right here in the Kingdom by Mondelez Maroc”.
“No matter where it is made—whether in Europe, the United States or Morocco—Oreo is the same delightful biscuit baked to the highest Mondelez International standards that has brought so much joy to billions of people since coming to market more than a hundred years ago”, he added.
