Hershey, the US chocolate firm, has broken ground on a $60 million project to expand a manufacturing facility in Hazle Township, PA, USA, according to a report in the Times Leader.
The investment, which is set to add 111 new jobs at the site, will see the installation of a new Kit Kat production line at the factory, which currently produces Kit Kat, Cadbury and Caramello products. The expansion is expected to be complete by the end of 2018.
In a statement, Todd Tillemans, president of Hershey’s US business, said that additional manufacturing capacity was needed to meet growing demand for Kit Kat products. Commenting on the move, he said: “Our plant here in Hazleton has long been a high-performing and valued facility. It was clear our manufacturing investment should be made here”.
Rick Camacho, Hershey chief supply chain officer, added that the new production line would increase daily Kit Kat production from 240,000 to 390,000 units per day.
