Multinational bakery firm Grupo Bimbo has announced plans to close manufacturing plants in Auburn and Olean (NY), and a third in San Antonio (TX), as part of ongoing restructuring efforts.
The closure of the two plants in New York will reduce the company’s presence in the state to just two facilities, both in Albany.
The latest closures follow announcements earlier this year that facilities in Nebraska, as well as New Mexico and Quebec, would also shut.
“After careful analysis and consideration, we have made the difficult decision to close the San Antonio, Texas, bakery this fall,” the company said in a statement. “We will transition production to bakeries in our network that are better equipped to support our future growth”.
Commenting on the Auburn and Olean closures, Bimbo senior director of regional operations Marco Espinoza added: “It was apparent that the facility did not have the infrastructure and manufacturing capability to compete in the marketplace.”
The Auburn site is expected to close on 6th September, followed by the San Antonio facility on 5th October and the Olean facility on 2nd November.
