Australian grocery retailer Coles has announced the opening of a new distribution centre in Western Sydney, the company’s second to function using automated technology.
In a press release, the company said the new distribution centre was part of an investment of more than $1 billion ($655 million) in technology led innovation.
The 187,000 sq mt Kemps Creek site has been created to provide better availability for customers and to create safer, more efficient outcomes for team members and suppliers, Coles added.
Once the facility is fully operational, it will serve 229 New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory stores and will be able to process more than four million cartons per week
Coles’ first Witron automated distribution centre opened in Queensland in 2023, since when it has processed more than 140 million cartons.
