USA: Danone builds plant-based food capacity

Food, Manufacture & Distribution, North America

Danone, the global dairy firm, has unveiled a new facility for the manufacture of plant-based foods at its site in Dubois, PA, USA, according to FoodBev and Food Business News reports.

The multi-million dollar investment will see products under brands such as Silk, So Delicious and Vega manufactured in a dedicated facility.

Danone has previously stated its intention to triple the size of its plant-based business by 2025, setting a goal of ultimately achieving € 5 billion ($5.7 billion) in plant-based sales.

“As flexitarian eating patterns continue to evolve and grow in popularity, plant-based food options present an opportunity to bring new choices throughout the grocery store,” said Danone North America CEO Mariano Lozano. “Dairy-free is different than non-dairy – dairy-free options must be produced in a facility that is solely dedicated to plant-based food production. As consumers continue to seek out more dairy-free options, having a facility that meets this standard gives us an opportunity to deliver on their growing demand and high expectations”.
