Leading US mushroom producer and supplier South Mill Champs is entering in the snack category by launching a mushroom-based snack.
Launched under the Shrooms brand name, the new range consists of four lines in a total of 14 different flavours, all containing mushroom as their main ingredient: Shrooms Crispy Mushrooms, Shrooms Mushroom Jerky, Shrooms Splits Jerky and Shrooms Snack Bar.
South Mill Champs described mushrooms as a “functional superfood” containing nutrients such as vitamins D and B, selenium, potassium, zinc, copper and fibre.
Commenting on the launch, David Eberwein, director of innovation & business development at Shrooms Snacks, said: “We saw an opportunity to create something new and authentic using our 80 years of mushroom growing experience. As the popularity of plant-based snacking continues to rise, we started thinking about ways to reinvent the mushroom to create convenient, better-for-you snacks that taste amazing and use the fresh, whole mushrooms we’re growing and farming every day”.
