US based household paper firm Kimberly-Clark has announced its intention to close its plant in Eldorado do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The closure is part of a restructuring plan announced in 2018.
According to Jornal do Comercio, 260 direct and indirect jobs will be affected by the decision, which is linked to Kimberly-Clark’s three-year global restructuring program.
The company is reported as saying that the production of sanitary pads will be transferred to its other plants in Brazil, comprising two factories in the state of Sao Paulo, one in Bahia and another in Santa Catarina.
The Eldorado do Sul plant, with which Kimberly-Clark has been present in Rio Grande do Sul for 20 years, is set to close by the end of May 2019.
