Naturaplan, the own brand organics range of Swiss supermarket Coop, has exceeded sales of CHF 1 billion for the first time, Lebensmittel Praxis reports.
Total sales for the Naturaplan brand range grew 13.3% in 2013 compared to 2012, an increase of CHF 110 million. 2013 saw the 20th anniversary of the Naturaplan brand in Switzerland and was marked by events and promotions. According to Coop, some 6,000 producers now contribute to around 200 organic products marketed under the Naturaplan brand name.
Meanwhile, 2013 also marked the year when Coop re-established itself in the Swiss retail market, the retailer’s chief executive Joos Sutter is reported as saying. Net income for the retail chain was up 1.7% to CHF 18.1 billion, while the number of Coop retail outlets rose by 16 to 1,933. Group revenue also increased, up 0.8% to CHF 26.9 billion.
At the channel level, however, the picture was slightly more mixed. While the internet division continued to see strong results (28.9% of sales), the company’s Coop City hypermarkets fared less well. Revenue was down to CHF 889 million, a 4.1% drop on 2012, reports said.
