Retail giants El Corte Ingles and Tesco have embarked on an initiative that will see iconic UK products from the Tesco brand range go on sale in El Corte Ingles stores in Spain, with El Corte Ingles products travelling in the opposite direction, according to reports in European Supermarket Magazine.
El Corte Ingles products are set to appear on shelves across the UK following a six-month test phase that initially saw 48 Spanish products introduced to Tesco stores in the London metropolitan area. Cambridge, Twickenham (London), Bristol, Brighton, Oxfordshire and Edinburgh are among the locations earmarked for the wider roll-out of products that will include charcuterie, preserved fish, turron, olive oil and vinegars.
More recently, Tesco has confirmed that a number of its own products – predominantly from its premium-positioned Tesco Finest line and including tea, biscuits and breakfast cereals – are set to go the other way with an appearance on El Corte Ingles shelves in Spain.
“We’re always looking to offer customers new and exciting products as part of our world food range”, a Tesco spokesperson is quoted as saying.
