The latest innovation insight from Gama Compass™
MANCHESTER – 12th September 2014: With e-cigarettes experiencing a surge in popularity across the globe, Gama considers what the future may hold for more traditional stop-smoking products.
One product that may have the answer is Aqua-Tine Homeopathic Nicotine Formula – a new ‘beverage mix’ format of nicotine replacement now on sale in the USA. Promoted as “a new alternative to traditional tobacco products including cigarettes, cigars, smokeless tobacco, as well as e-cigarettes”, Aqua-Tine is a stop-smoking aid “for situations and environments where an individual either cannot or chooses not to smoke”. The liquid can be mixed into “your beverage of choice” and is designed to deal with temporary nicotine cravings.
The launch of Aqua-Tine comes as e-cigarettes are experiencing a popularity boom – in the UK, the number of e-cigarette users has tripled from 700,000 in 2012 to 2.1 million in 2014, according to research from the charity Action on Smoking and Health. More than just a stop-smoking aid, e-cigarettes have become an attractive lifestyle accessory in their own right, available in innumerable flavours and formats.
The challenge posed by e-cigarettes could prompt further innovation in the stop-smoking aids category. New formats, a greater focus on lifestyle elements and appealing flavours, and a renewed emphasis on medicinal benefits could all help traditional stop-smoking aids counteract their e-cigarette rivals, while still tapping into that same demand for ‘healthy’ tobacco alternatives.
