Zwanenberg, a producer of meat preserves, snacks, soups, sauces, convenience meals and vegetarian products, has announced an agreement to acquire the Chicken Tonight sauce brand from Anglo-Dutch consumer goods giant Unilever.
Zwanenberg said it already made the sauces for Unilever but from now one would also assume responsibility for marketing and sales.
Commenting on the deal, Zwanenberg Nederland CEO Maarten Elsinga said: “Chicken Tonight is a wonderful extension of our product range. Since 2015 we have been working to become a broad food company with strong brands. After the takeover of Unilever’s Oss factory in 2017, we are convinced that the acquisition of Chicken Tonight is a nice addition that fits perfectly in our ambition. Thanks to Unilever’s marketing efforts, Chicken Tonight is a well-known brand among consumers and retailers”.
Unilever marketing director Debora van der Zee added: “Chicken Tonight is a recognizable and well-loved brand that has been a fixed value in the Dutch supermarket for decades. Zwanenberg has been producing the product since 2017 and given the widening of their portfolio, the sale of the brand to Zwanenberg is an appropriate and logical step”.
