Heineken, the Dutch beermaker, has acquired Komari Beverage, an Ethiopian alcoholic drinks firm, according to a report in Capital Ethiopia.
According to sources, oamari Beverage produces hard seltzers under the Arada brand, and was first launched to market in 2021. It reportedly claims to be the only manufacturer of hard seltzers in Ethiopia and has a production capacity of 27,000 bottles per hour.
Commenting on the deal, Komari Beverage chief brand officer Abiy Solomon, said: “We understand the Ethiopian consumer’s desire for variety and refreshment, and collaborative innovation that actively involves consumers in the product development process are the key reasons to make our spirit welcomed by customers”.
Heineken first entered the Ethiopian market in 2011, becoming the largest beermaker in the country in 2018 after increasing production capacity at its Qilinto brewery.
Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
