French dairy giant Lactalis has announced the acquisition of Italian cheese maker Nuova Castelli, which was majority owned by private equity firm Charterhouse Capital Partners.
With the acquisition of Nuova Castelli, Lactalis said it would strengthen its position in Italy where it currently operates 29 production sites and has a workforce of over 5,500 people.
Nuova Castelli makes traditional Italian cheese with protected designation of origin (PDO) cerftification, including parmesan, gorgonzola and mozzarella cheese, and employs over 1,000 people. It operates facilities in Poland, the USA and Hungary and had turnover of €460 million ($512.6 million) in 2018.
The acquisition is subject to the approval of the competent regulatory authorities.
