Swiss dairy firm Emmi has announced the sale of its 25% stake in cheese business Ambrosi in order to focus on “profitable growth segments”.
Ambrosi is an Italian cheese specialist and producer of Parmigiano Reggiano, Grana Padano, mozzarella and gorgonzola cheeses.
The stake was acquired in 2007, with the aim of generating international growth in several countries in the speciality and premium cheeses segment.
“Italian cheese classics such as Parmigiano Reggiano and Grana Padano have been the ideal addition to our high-quality traditional range of Swiss cheese specialities, but are no longer part of our core range”, said Urs Riedener, CEO of the Emmi Group. “The sale also reflects our consistent strategic alignment to differentiated brand concepts and profitable focus platforms such as ready-to-drink coffee, specialty cheeses, desserts and plant-based milk alternatives”.
The value of the transaction was not disclosed.
