The Indian arm of food and drinks multinational Danone has announced that it will invest $22.5 million to expand a plant in Lalru, Punjab, where it will set up a new spray dryer unit to manufacture infant nutrition products, according to a report in the Ecomonic Times.

Commenting on the investment, Danone India MD Laurent Marcel said: “India is a strategic market for us with immense potential in value added nutrition. Over the last five years, Danone has made significant investment in India to develop an innovative and quality driven product portfolio”.

In India, Danone operates in the dairy and life nutrition segments. Its dairy range includes UHT and fresh products such as mishtidoi, chaas, lassi, dahi, flavoured yoghurts and smoothies, while its life nutrition business Nutricia offers products under brands such as Farex, Protinex, Dexolac and Nusobee.
