Unilever, the consumer goods giant, has announced it is expanding further in the premium skincare category with the acquisition of derma-cosmetic firm Garancia for an undisclosed sum.
Sold mainly in pharmacy channels and through selective retail distribution, Garancia offers 38 facial and body skincare products that are claimed to feature “clean and effective formulas combined with a scientific approach”. Founded in 2004 by pharmacist Savéria Coste, the brand now offers a broad range of personal care products including moisturisers, exfoliators and serums for the face, as well as concealer, self-tan, body creams and perfume.
Commenting on the deal, Vasiliki Petrou, Unilever EVP and CEO Prestige, said: “Garancia is one of the leading brands in pharmacies with a strong positioning between natural and science, offering fantastic beauty products with a touch of magic. Thanks to Savéria’s vision and expertise in derma-cosmetics, Garancia’s hero product Pschitt Magique is much loved and has earned great loyalty from consumers across different generations. We are delighted to have the opportunity to grow this brand globally”.
