Discount retailer Lidl has announced the opening of a new logistics hub in Ablis, southwest Paris, which is claimed to be the company’s largest anywhere in Europe.
According to sources, the new facility will in a first stage serve Lidl’s 50 or so stores in the Paris region, while also having potential for further expansion.
Reportedly taking seven years to construct, the facility encompasses an area of 87,000 sq m, including a 5,800 sq m office and 14 loading and uploading docks. It is expected to receive 9,000 pallets per day, with 10,000 being dispatched from the facility each week.
The facility is said to benefit from renewable energy generated from 12,000 sq m of solar panels. In addition, distribution is optimised to minimise empty lorry movements.
