Global meat firm JBS has announced the acquisition of a 50% stake in egg specialist Mantiqueira, entering a new product category in the process.
Mantiqueira currently has facilities in six Brazilian states but its products are available in ten more and also exported. Its brands include Happy Eggs and Fazenda da Toca.
Commenting on the deal, JBS global CEO Gilberto Tomazoni said: “This investment is in line with our long-term strategy, which foresees portfolio diversification with the entry of new protein segments and investment in branded businesses with added value”.
Leandro Pinto, president of the Mantiqueira board, commented: “We are leaders in Brazil and, with the arrival of JBS SA in our company, we will have greater access to market opportunities, in addition to obtaining the necessary knowledge to compete outside the country”.
The deal is contingent on regulatory approval.
