Lactalis, the French dairy giant, has confirmed the acquisition of Australia-based yogurt maker Jalna Dairy Foods together with a yogurt production facility in Melbourne and a milk farm in northern Victoria with around 90 employees, where the terms of the transaction weren’t disclosed.
Jalna has a portfolio of yogurts made by blending pure milk with probiotics and natural ingredients.
“This transaction expands Lactalis Australia’s yogurt portfolio of iconic brands with the highly recognisable and popular yogurt brand, Jalna,” Lactalis stated in a press release. “Jalna is a fully integrated, paddock-to-pot, dairy business that produces pot set yogurts, manufactures the majority of its unique containers, and operates a biodynamic farm, with a strong focus on Greek, organic and all natural yogurts”.
“This acquisition strengthens Lactalis Australia’s leadership role in the local dairy sector, a growing national footprint and Lactalis’ long-term investment in Australia,” added.
The acquisition of Jalna is the second confirmed by Lactalis in 2022 after the purchase of the German cooperative Bayerische Milchindustrie eG (BMI).
