US-based retailer Walmart Canada is investing over $118 million to build a high-tech fulfillment centre in Alberta, Canada.
According to sources, the 430,000 sq. ft warehouse, located in Rock View County, will be a delivery hub for orders in Western Canada.
The investment is said to be part of the retailer’s strategy to improve shopping experiences both online and in-store and will allow the company to expand the availability of two-day shipping to 61% of Canadians.
Horacio Barbeit, Walmart Canada president and CEO, said: “This modern facility will provide our associates with the latest logistics technology to improve our supply chain. That means more products available, more orders fulfilled and more Canadians offered two-day shipping. This is how we’re transforming our operations to meet the needs of Albertans and all Canadians”.
The new facility will create more than 325 new jobs at Walmart as well as construction and engineering jobs.
