Mondelez, the global snacks and confectionery firm, has invested C$4o million ($30 million) to upgrade a confectionery facility in Hamilton, Canada to increase capacity, according to a report in Canadian Grocer.
The investment is reportedly being spent on a new line that will make 11 million pieces of Maynards jelly sweets a day for distribution across Canada and the USA.
The new production line in Hamilton is part of a wider commitment to manufacturing in Ontario that includes a C$250 million ($190 million) investment in other Greater Toronto Area expansions, the company said.
Commenting on the move, Mondelez Canada president Martin Parent said: “With this new line, Hamilton leads the way in advanced food manufacturing. […] And thanks to the passionate 350-strong team of candy makers, we remain committed to making Canada’s favourite—and we think most delicious—candy right here in Ontario”.
