Snacks and confectionery multinational Mondelez has announced plans to close two factories in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
According to InfoMoney, the decision to cease operations at the two factories – one in Buaru and the other in Piracicaba – was taken in order to optimise the company’s production network and guarantee sustainable growth.
The company will transfer production from the two site to its facilities in Curitiba and Pernambuco, which are the largest that the company operates in Latin America. According to a Mondelez statement, sugar confectionery, chocolate, powdered drinks, desserts and cream cheese will move to the firm’s Curitiba site, while biscuits and chocolates will be produced in Pernambuco.
More than 2,000 employees are likely to affected by the closures, which are slated for the end of 2018.
