Netherlands-based retailer Jumbo is set to expand beyond the Dutch market with the opening of a new store in Bree in Belgium.
According to a report in Retail Detail, Jumbo will construct a 1,997 sq m building in a new retail park that project developer Immo Bree Invest is building in the town, which is situated in the northeast of the province of Limburg, close to the Dutch border.
The municipality, which has around 15,000 inhabitants, is already served by Aldi, Carrefour Market, Colruyt, Delhaize and Lidl stores.
Jumbo is one of the leading players in the Dutch retail space with 19% market share and €6.7 billion in revenue in 2016. The retailer has seen a rapid expansion of its store network in the last seven years, operating 580 outlets in 2016 versus 174 in 2010.
