Carrefour, the French retail giant, has announced that it is debuting a new supermarket banner in Belgium with a focus on “fresh produce, simplicity and speed”.
Carrefour Easy will target customers doing day-to-day shopping, the retailer said, and would have the attraction of local promotions that will vary each day.
In terms of size, Gondola reports that Carrefour Easy will sit somewhere between the supermarket’s existing Market format (for customers who shop regularly throughout the week) and Express (which offers quick meal solutions), with floor space of around 400 to 800 sq m.
The stores’ product range will consist largely of fresh produce such as fruit and vegetables, meat and fish as well as freshly-baked bread, in addition to some other groceries and a limited choice of non-food items.
Having tested the concept for almost two years, Carrefour said its first Easy store was already open in Charleroi-Nord, with eight more outlets set to bear the name in the near future. The ultimate ambition was to create a network of around 100 Carrefour Easy stores, the firm added.
