Brandt, the German crispbread firm, is to acquire the Austrian brand Feldbacher as it bids to expand its presence in Europe, the Westfalen Post reports.
Feldbacher is the number one Austrian brand of crispbread and was first produced in 1922. It is currently owned by Bahlsen, the leading German manufacturer of biscuits, snacks and other baked goods.
The deal is described as forming part of Brandt’s strategy to boost revenues by focusing on export sales.
Commenting on the move, Brandt CEO Carl-Jürgen Brandt said: “In the future, Feldbacher brand crispbread will be manufactured in Brandt’s factory. We want to boost our presence inside the EU”.
Terms of the deal, which will give Brandt a market-leading position in both Austria and Germany, were not disclosed.
