Consumer goods major Unilever has announced plans to invest $80 million to expand its facility in Jefferson City, MO for the manufacture of the functional powder mix Liquid IV.

Liquid IV was acquired by Unilever in 2020 with the aim of strengthening the company’s presence in the health and wellness category,  and is said to be now four times larger than it was in the period near acquisition. The range consists of non-GMO powder mixes said to improve water absorption, provide energy, and aid in achieving good sleep cycles.

The plant facilities are claimed to include automated packaging lines, a blending room operation and modifications to required infrastructure, such as heating and cooling.

Commenting on the move, Unilever Health & Wellbeing CEO Jostein Solheim, said: “Securing supply chain resiliency for Liquid I.V. is a key factor in continuing to drive growth for the brand”.
