FMCG giant Danone has announced that the company is ceasing production of Bonafont waters in Brazil and its activities in the Jacutinga plant in the state of Minas Gerais.
According to sources, the company decided to cease production of the Bonafont brand to focus on other categories that are more significant in the country, being more profitable and showing growth.
The company is now focusing their efforts to offer dairy and plant-based products and specialised nutrition in the country, being able to have more resources to develop innovation and meet market demands in these main categories.
Danone said: “The decision to discontinue the water category in Brazil does not affect other markets where Bonafont is present, nor the Danone’s water category worldwide. Waters is an important category that is at the heart of our mission. Water is the healthiest drink, and we bring healthy hydration to people in the most sustainable way!.
Employees of the Jacutinga facility were offered positions in other areas or offered special packages above legal requirements with adequate termination conditions, sources say.
