German discount retail giant Aldi has opened its first Shop&Go store in London which uses state-of-the-art technology to allow customers to shop without scanning the products or going through the checkout.
To use the checkout-free store, customers will have to download the Aldi Shop&Go app and register an account which will allow them to enter the store and pick up the products. Once the shopping is finished, the client just can leave the store and the cost of the items will be charged automatically via the app.
“Today is the culmination of months of work, not least from the team here in Greenwich and I’m looking forward to seeing how customers react to our trial,” said Giles Hurley, CEO of Aldi UK and Ireland. “This store utilises the very latest in retail technology offering Aldi’s award-winning products and unbeatable prices to customers in a new and innovative way. The team are really excited about seeing customers come in and experience Aldi Shop&Go”.
