Supermarket chain Lidl Belgium has announced that it plans to open 23 new stores in the country by the end of February 2022.
According to the retailer’s press release, two new stores have opened on the 10th February 2021, in Zottegem and Virton and four new stores will open in Retie, Beaumont, Aubange, and Tongeren on the 24th February 2021.
Lidl plans to remodel nine stores in Belgian cities and to relocate 10 stores, all part of an expansion strategy to open larger outlets with more light and fresh locally sourced products so that Belgians are able to shop closer to their home.
Isabelle Colbrandt, spokesperson for Lidl said: “We pay extra attention to local products. The Belgian consumer appreciates this. Half of our fruit and vegetables and 90% of our meat come from Belgium. 100% of our milk and eggs come from our country”.
The expansion plan will generate 500 new jobs by the end of 2022.
