Snacks and confectionery multinational Mondelez has announced plans to invest £15 million ($21 million) into a new production line at its Bournville chocolate facility in Birmingham, UK.
According to sources, £11 million of the investment will be spent to create a new production line for Cadbury Milk tablets as the company consolidates the majority of its tablets production at the site, and £4 million to increase the chocolate making capacity to meet demand for chocolate tablets.
Louise Stigant, UK managing director at Mondelez International said: “At a time when manufacturing in the UK is facing significant challenges, it has never been more vital to secure the long-term competitiveness and sustainability of our business. We now have an opportunity at Bournville to further invest in its future as the home and heart of Cadbury by bringing more Cadbury Dairy Milk production to Bournville”.
Since 2014, Mondelez said it had invested £80 million at the Bournville facility, increasing production capacity by more than 30% during this period.
