Megmilk Snow Brand, a Japan-based dairy company, has launched what is said to be the first yoghurt drink that can reduce nose and eye discomfort due to allergies.
Launched under the name of Nyu-San-Kin Helve, the yoghurt drink is said to have a lactic acid bacterium present on its formula named L.helveticus SBT2171, which was demonstrated to reduce allergy symptoms. According to the company, each bottle of yoghurt drink has one billion of these bacteria.
Research on a test population of 100 adults showed that everyday consumption of Nyu-San-Kin Helve for 12 weeks significantly reduced the number of sneezes and nose and eye discomfort, improving daily quality of life, the company added.
Available in Japanese supermarkets and convenience stores, Nyu-San-Kin Helve has a retail price of $1.12 per bottle. The company claims that the product is low-fat and contains 37 calories per bottle.
