Cerealto, a Spanish food manufacturer, has announced the acquisition of Italian pasta producer Pastificio Mediterranea.

As part of the agreement, Cerealto will maintain 100% of the workforce, a total of 63 employees, as well as machinery and production lines at the pastamaker’s facility located in Silvano D’Orba, Alessandria. According to a company press release, Cerealto will also continue using 100% local Italian suppliers.

Pastificio Mediterranea is a manufacturer of pasta with a history dating back over 100 years. It produces around 70 different types of pasta, including organic and wholemeal products with different varieties of 100% Italian semolina.

The purchase of Pastificio Mediterranea is part of Cerealto’s strategy of expansion in southern Europe and follows previous acquisitions in Spain and Portugal.

Cerealto produces bakery products such as biscuits, breakfast cereal and cereal bars as well as pasta, and has eight production centres in Spain, Portugal, Italy, the United Kingdom and Mexico.
