USA: U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company to relocate operations

U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company LLC (USSTC), an oral tobacco manufacturer and Altria subsidiary, has announced plans to transition its manufacturing operations from its Nashville (TN) plant to a new facility in Hopkinsville (KY).

Production at the legacy 800,000 sq ft Nashville plant will wind down gradually and is expected to conclude in early 2028. The facility is primarily used as a finishing and packaging operation for brands including Copenhagen, Skoal, Red Seal and Husky.

By moving capacity to a modern 270,000 sq ft facility on an existing campus in Hopkinsville, the company aims to eliminate fixed cost inefficiencies and complete nearly all processing, production and finishing in Hopkinsville. USSTC intends to sell its 30-acre downtown Nashville campus.

Michael Brace, president and CEO of USSTC, stated: “By streamlining operations and concentrating production at a purpose-built facility, we can improve efficiency, enhance resilience and better support the future needs of our business.”

The company currently employs more than 300 people in Nashville and approximately 200 full-time workers in Hopkinsville.
