Precept Wine & Spirits, the US-based wine and spirits producer, has acquired the wine brand portfolio of California producer Miller Family Wine Company.
The transaction includes brand trademarks, finished goods inventory, bulk wine and private label business. The acquisition adds several Californian labels to the Precept umbrella, including Butternut, the portfolio’s largest-volume brand, Hand on Heart, Ballard Lane and J. Wilkes.
Andrew Browne, CEO of Precept Wine & Spirits, commented: “The Miller Family Wine Company represents generations of craftmanship and quality, and we are honored to carry that legacy forward. The brand portfolio is a natural fit for Precept, as a first substantial investment in California and we’re eager to build upon the outstanding reputation these brands have earned with consumers in their longstanding histories”.
The Miller family will continue to own and operate its estate vineyards, including Bien Nacido Vineyard and French Camp Vineyard, from which Precept will source fruit for existing national and private label brands. There are no changes planned to the existing wholesale distribution networks of either business.
