Manufacture & Distribution, North America, Pet Care

J.M. Smucker, the US food and pet products manufacturer, has announced a $20.5 million investment to expand its manufacturing facility in Topeka, Kansas.

The project involves a $17.8 million capital investment in real property and $2.7 million for new equipment to support modernization and operational growth. According to the company, the expansion will add 28,000 sq ft of new space and renovate a further 32,000 sq ft. The Topeka site, which has been operational for over 55 years, primarily produces the Meow Mix cat food and Milk-Bone dog treat brands.

Luke Livingston, director of operations at J.M. Smucker, stated: “We are excited to continue to expand our operations in Topeka to support the consumers who count on our beloved brands […] and the dedicated workforce that works diligently to continue to deliver these high-quality products”.

The expansion is supported by $383,000 in economic development incentives approved by the Joint Economic Development Organization (JEDO) board of Topeka and Shawnee County. Construction is scheduled to begin in March 2026, with completion targeted for late 2027.

The move follows a $53 million renovation of the company’s Milk-Bone plant in Buffalo, New York, which was announced in 2025 to boost production capacity.
